Sad News: Brazil Legend, Pele Dies At Age 82

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, who was better known as “Pele” around the world, died on Thursday after having a number of health problems over the past few years.
Even though he played most of his career in Brazil, the Brazilian’s name became synonymous with football, and he became one of the most well-known faces of the sport around the world.
Many people think he was one of the best players ever, and he won three World Cups, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
Pele played his first game as a professional footballer for Santos when he was just 15 years old. He went on to score 643 goals in 659 games for Santos, making him the club’s all-time top scorer.
With Santos, he won six league titles, including five in a row. He also won many other trophies, including the Copa Libertadores twice.
At the World Cup, he became well-known around the world because of how exciting he played and how amazing his goals were.
Pele played his first game for Brazil when he was only 16. A year later, he was the world champion. At 17 years and 249 days old, he was and still is the youngest player to score in a World Cup final.
He went on to win the tournament twice more, which has never been done before. He still holds the record for most goals scored in a tournament with 77 in 1992.
Pele was one of the most famous athletes of the 20th century. Even after he retired and spent a short time with the New York Cosmos, he was still a big name in the sport.
The Guinness Book of Records says that he scored 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, including friendlies. This is the most in history, but this number has been disputed.
Even after he stopped playing, Pele kept working to get people around the world interested in soccer.
People will remember him from his part in the 1981 movie Escape to Victory, in which he played Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine. The movie came out in 1981. Pele and Sylvester Stallone were just two of the stars.
In 1994, UNESCO named him a Goodwill Ambassador, and he helped Brazil try to get the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
In the past few years, Pele’s health has been getting worse, and he was in a wheelchair for the 2018 World Cup draw.
In September 2021, he had surgery to get rid of a tumor in his colon. Over the next few months, he was in and out of the hospital.
In a statement on Thursday, it was said that he had died at the age of 82.
