Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana declares ‘total’ nationwide strike
The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike effective Monday, September 16, 2024, over the government’s failure to address their demands for improved working conditions.
In a statement sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the Senior Staff Association said the total strike which includes all members of (the SSA-UoG) is to register their displeasure over the government’s inability to fulfil previous agreements.
Despite a prior agreement, the SSA-UoG said the central government has failed to implement new rates for Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances.
The statement also noted that the government has not released Tier Two deductions to Fund Managers since January 2024 and has neglected to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds from 2010 to 2016.
The SSA-UoG amid the above concerns has directed all member campuses to adhere strictly to the strike directive, emphasising that the government’s inaction has left them no choice but to take drastic measures.
