HISTORY
The Catholic Church runs some schools for girls in the Eastern Region. One of these schools is St. Rose’s Senior High School. The Dominican Sisters from Speyer, Germany, opened St. Rose’s Senior High School (which used to be called St. Rose’s Secondary School) in November 1965. Rev. Sr. Victricia Koch, who was in charge of the Dominican Sisters in Ghana at the time, Rev. Sr. Beatrix Koob, Rev. Sr. Zita Simon, and Rev. Sr. Solamen Ott were the first Dominican Sisters. Most Reverend Bishop Joseph Oliver Bowers, who was at the time the Bishop of the Catholic Church’s Accra Diocese, brought them to Ghana.
The school started out as a college for training teachers, with 80 students. In September 1969, the college became a secondary school with 72 students. The school was started when Barima Kofi Bempong II, who was the chief of Akwatia at the time, the Akwatia Traditional Council, and the Akwatia Town Development Committee passed a resolution.
They have been competing in the Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz over the years.
