Basic Schools To Spend 12 Weeks In Term One

The 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools has begun. Basic school students will spend a total of 12 Weeks in school in term one.

As indicated on the 2023/2024 academic calendar, basic schools reopened on 3rd October, 2023. They will be in school for 12 Weeks and go on vacation on Friday, 22nd December, 2023.

The second term will begin on 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. The third term will also begin on 30th April, 2024 and end on 25th July, 2024.

2023/2024 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools

First Term

Schools resumed on 3rd October, 2023 and will end on 22nd December, 2024. Students will then go on break from 23rd December, 2023 to 8th January, 2024.

Second Term

Second term will resume on 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. Students will then go on break from 12th April, 2024 to 29th April, 2024.

Third Term

The third term will start on 30th April, 2024 and end on 25th July, 2024. JHS 3 students are expected to write their BECE in July, 2024

Academic Calendar For SHS

The 2022/2023 academic year is still in session for some schools in Ghana. Also, the 2023/2024 academic year has also begun for some schools.

According to the 2022/2023 academic calendar, Senior High Schools will officially end their academic year on 30th November, 2023. SHS 1 students in double track schools will end theirs on 30th November, 2023.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end early this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year. It is believed the SHS academic year will also be restored back to normal next year.
