Wemakor receives special Invitation to Pan Africa Human Rights and Social Justice Conference in Nairobi

Joseph Kobla Wemakor, a distinguished human rights activist and journalist from Ghana, has recently achieved global recognition within the human rights community.

The Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) has been extended a special invitation to the high-level Pan Africa Human Rights and Social Justice Conference by Ben Saul, the respected UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and countering terrorism.

Scheduled to take place at the renowned Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 8 and 9, 2024, this significant event aims to encourage dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders in Africa, with a focus on promoting a human rights-centered approach to combatting terrorism in the region.

The conference aspires to enhance cooperation among African civil society organizations, governmental bodies, and regional entities, with the potential to impact the Special Rapporteur’s upcoming report to the General Assembly in October 2024.

This report will highlight the importance of regional and sub regional bodies in protecting human rights while tackling terrorism-related challenges across the continent.

Upon receiving the invitation, Wemakor expressed his eagerness to engage with esteemed human rights advocates and policymakers to support human rights amidst counter-terrorism efforts in Africa.

His involvement in the G16 Regional Security Advocacy Group further underscores his dedication to advancing security processes in West Africa.

Wemakor and his colleagues from G16RSAC will not only have the opportunity to collaborate with the UN Special Rapporteur’s office on critical counter-terrorism issues in Africa but also partake in constructive dialogues to shape regional strategies in accordance with global human rights standards.

The conference symbolizes a beacon of hope in advocating for sustainable solutions, increased awareness, and improved regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism while upholding human rights principles.

Through collective endeavors and strategic involvement, Joseph Wemakor and his peers are poised to play a significant role in shaping a more equitable and rights-respecting future for Africa.
