Teach and refrain from absenteeism, drunkenness – Ntim to teachers

Teacher absenteeism has the tendency to slow down learning and student progress, as contact hours are lost due to the unavailability of teachers on school days for unofficial duties and reasons.

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Deputy Minister for Education, has advised teachers in the country to refrain from unacceptable behaviours and attitudes such as lateness, laziness, drunkenness, absenteeism, and all other social vices.

Why refrain from teacher absenteeism

He added that, should they avoid these, they will be better-positioned to teach learners during contact hours.

He made the call during a sod-cutting ceremony for the installation of a telecommunication mast at Assin Homaho.

According to Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, these acts are serious obstacles that derail efforts at ensuring the sound upbringing of children in the school environment.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Education Minister furthered that the government was committed to ensuring that it offers free and equal access to quality education for all Ghanaian children and the youth.

The Member of Parliament for Assin South Member further charged teachers in the constituency to be committed to their calling and work hard to promote the policy of Government aimed at providing free education to all eligible Ghanaian children of school-going age who excel in the BECE after their basic education.

The Deputy Minister for Education called on students and their teachers to make good use of the installed telecommunication mast which will improve telephone and internet services in the area for academic activities and online learning.
