4 Teachers Worrying Concerns That Need Dr. Adutwum’s Attention
To set the minister in motion, teachers have only not congratulated Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum but also petitioned him with 4 requests they said needs attention.
The four issues tabled by teachers include
#1 Teachers study leave pay
The need for the Education Minister to pay all teachers who went on study leave with pay through genuine approval and acquired higher certification. The request comes with the urgent call for the outstanding payment owed to teachers to be settled by end of April 2021.
#2 Teachers study leave arrears
That all arrears that have accrued due to the above unpaid salaries be settled in a lump sum.
#3 Teachers are due for upgrade
Teachers are due for upgrade, but their letters have not been issued. The chalk fraternity has called on Dr. Adutwum to ensure upgrading letters are issued and backdated to reflect the date teachers qualified for their respective upgrades and not the dates they were paid.
#4 Upgrades and jumped teachers two (2) steps forward
d. Finally, teachers are requesting that those who suffered delays in their upgrades be jumped two (2) steps forward along with the corresponding level and point so that they are brought at par with their colleagues who were upgraded ahead of them at the time they were all qualified for the upgrade.
“This is so because every year teachers enjoy a one-step jump which starts from point 1.
Since a portion of teachers has upgraded ahead others their point levels will not be the same as ours meanwhile we are equal in terms of rank,” the teachers stated in the social media post.
Again, they have requested that as a matter of urgency, colleague teachers belonging to the 2019 and 2018 batches have also not been upgraded
They also said some teachers who acquired their degrees through Distance education in 2018 and 2019 2019 should be upgraded to their respective ranks.
“A portion of these teachers have been paid as far back as June 2020 up to November 2020, and since then no explanation was given as to why the rest have not been paid,” the teachers stated in the post.
These issues were tabled in a post by teachers on social media and sighted by Ghanaeducation.org. This is an urgent call on the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, to take action.
