Tema to experience total darkness (Dumsor) over funeral of a chief
Information reaching the Ghana Education News desk revealed that Tema will experience total darkness over the funeral of a chief. Ghanaians have questioned the importance of the old tradition and wonder if such a move will bring development to the people or Tema. The news was made public via a press release by the Teme General Hospital.
“Which means everyone will be home till daybreak and ECG too will off power because of this useless tradition” a Tweet sighted by Ghana Education News quizzed. Others have argued that even when Queen Elizabeth Passed on, there were no light outs hence the decision to put the lights out is a wrong decision that does not meet modern Ghana status.
“One other comment which supported the old-fashioned tradition stated that “Just 7pm to 12-midnight Keke, arh u people kraaa,U r on Ga land hustling and u want to disrespect their customs…Tell the Asantehene to also look at River Pra when passing by it, then they will also change it”.
The question others have asked is this…Must all cars still in traffic between 7 pm and 12 midnight off their lights and drive in the dark? Some have also argued that this move is only to cause fear and panic among people and that, such customs should be modernized to meet the current times and not alter today’s lifestyle to meet an old tradition. Will health facilities be permitted to use their plants? There are more questions than answers now. Culture is expected to be dynamic, change with time, and be flexible to meet the changing needs of the time and the people as the world develops.
