Theresa Kufuor to be laid to rest on November 19 in Kumasi

In a solemn announcement, it has been revealed that the concluding funeral ceremonies for the esteemed former First Lady, Theresa Aba Kufuor, are scheduled to be held at the dignified forecourt of the state house on the auspicious date of November 16, 2023.
The funeral rites are set to proceed in Kumasi on November 18, with the final resting place for the deceased scheduled for November 19, 2023.
The announcement was made by Papa Kofi Mensah, the Spokesperson of the family, during a visit to the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday (October 10, 2023). The purpose of the visit was to formally inform President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo about the passing of the late First Lady.

In a statement delivered by the family’s spokesperson, Papa Kofi Mensah, it was revealed that the family felt it necessary to formally inform President Akufo-Addo about the tragic news. The spokesperson emphasised the impressive background of the late First Lady and her husband, former President Kufuor, as the driving force behind this decision.
According to reports, it has been confirmed that the late Theresa Aba Kufuor, wife of former President Kufuor, tragically passed away at Peduase on Sunday afternoon, specifically on October 1, 2023. In light of this unfortunate event, the family has announced that they will be observing the one week memorial at the residence of former President Kufuor in Peduase. This solemn occasion is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
According to Papa Kofi Mensah, the funeral proceedings are scheduled to commence in Accra on November 16, 2023, and conclude in Kumasi on November 19, 2023.
According to his statement, it has been confirmed that Theresa Aba Kufuor’s final resting place will be in Kumasi. Following her burial, a solemn thanksgiving mass will be conducted to pay tribute to her remarkable life and legacy.
In a solemn gesture, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo extended a warm welcome to those gathered at the seat of government. With a heavy heart, he conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. The President spoke highly of the late First Lady, acknowledging her remarkable character and the exemplary life she led.
In a reminiscent tone, the individual recounted their enduring connection with the esteemed Kufuor family. They fondly recollected the momentous encounter with Theresa Aba Kufuor and her esteemed spouse, former President Kufuor, which took place approximately 51 years ago in the year 1962, within the distinguished confines of Oxford, England.
“She was in Oxford with her husband, and I had visited their house during that time. We had been living harmoniously, and thus, I empathise with the sorrow you feel over her sudden departure,” he expressed.
In a solemn revelation, President Akufo-Addo disclosed that on a momentous Sunday, he made a visit to the esteemed residence of former President Kufuor in Peduase. However, his intentions were met with a heart-wrenching announcement – the unfortunate demise of the former First Lady.
The President, in a heartfelt statement, provided reassurance to the grieving family that their beloved matriarch would receive a dignified state burial. With unwavering commitment, he declared, “Rest assured, as long as I hold the esteemed position of President, I will personally ensure that she is accorded a befitting farewell. This remarkable woman, known for her grace and dignity, deserves nothing less.”
In a poignant reflection on his enduring bond with the late J. H. Mensah, a distinguished figure who served as Senior Minister during the esteemed tenure of former President Kufuor, President Akufo-Addo eloquently shared their profound connection. Notably, Mensah was not only a trusted political ally but also a cherished confidant, having collaborated closely within the esteemed corridors of power during their shared service in the Kufuor administration.
As a gesture of respect towards the former First Lady, he announced that flags were lowered to half-mast last week, and this solemn tribute will be repeated on the day of her funeral.
