University-wide Scholarships for International Students

As the name implies, university-wide scholarships are generally available for any subject, course, or field of study offered at the University.

Although there may be some exceptions (e.g., Medicine, Dentistry, Law, MBA, etc.), these scholarships generally cover all or the majority of the University’s courses.

» Not every university offers courses in every field of study. The University may offer scholarships for all of its courses, but it may not offer the specific course subject you are interested in.

» The courses covered by the scholarships will have some exceptions. Some scholarships do not cover courses like medicine/clinical studies, MBA studies, law studies, or other subjects specified by the university.

» Eligible courses might change at any time. Scholarship conditions might change at any time. The scholarships may cover all courses at one point, but it can exclude some courses at another point in time. Therefore, you must confirm with the University if the course you are interested in is indeed covered by the scholarship at the moment you are intending to apply.

» The course covered by the scholarships might be offered for a particular semester only. Although the scholarship may cover a particular course,  that course may not be offered for the semester you are intending to study.

» The scholarships may only be available for specific levels of study. Some scholarships are available for Bachelor’s Degrees only, Masters Degree only, or PhD Degree only while some are only available for both Bachelors/Masters Degree or Masters/PhD Degree.

University-wide Scholarships for Both Bachelors and Masters Degrees

Bologna University Study Grants for International Students (Italy)
The University of Bologna offers study grants to deserving international students who wish to register for First Cycle (Bachelors), Second Cycle (Masters) or Single Cycle Degree Programmes offered at the University of Bologna.  Each study grant amounts to a total of €11,059 and is awarded for one academic year.

Sheffield Hallam University Transform Together Scholarships (UK)
Transform Together scholarships are open to international and European Union (non-UK) students applying to study any full-time postgraduate or undergraduate-taught course at Sheffield Hallam University. Half fee waiver (50%) is available for postgraduate courses and for each year of an undergraduate degree.

Lund University Global Scholarship Programme (Sweden)
The Lund University Global Scholarship Programme is targeted at top academic students who are citizens of countries from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (and Switzerland) and who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree studies offered at the University.  Scholarships may cover 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of the tuition fee.

University-wide Scholarships for Ph.D. Degrees Only 

Cambridge International Scholarship Scheme (UK)
The University of Cambridge will offer, via the Cambridge Trusts, approximately 80 Cambridge International Scholarships to Overseas Students who embark on a research course leading to a Ph.D. Degree offered at the University.  Each award will underwrite the full cost of fees and maintenance for the duration of the course.

Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarships (UK)
The Warwick Graduate School awards around 25 Chancellor’s International Scholarships to the most outstanding international Ph.D. applicants yearly. The scholarships are open to students of any nationality and to any discipline offered at Warwick.  The scholarships include the full payment of the overseas tuition fees and a maintenance stipend.

University-wide Scholarships for Both Masters’s and PhD Degrees

Gates Cambridge Scholarships (UK)
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are highly competitive full-cost scholarships that are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.  A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge namely: university fees, maintenance allowances, airfare, and some dependent allowance.

Clarendon Scholarships at the University of Oxford (UK)
The Clarendon Fund is a major graduate scholarship scheme at the University of Oxford, offering around 140 new scholarships every year. Clarendon Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential across all degree-bearing subjects at the graduate level at the University of Oxford. All Clarendon Scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full and a generous grant for living expenses

Melbourne Research Scholarships (Australia)
The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high-achieving domestic and international research students.  The benefits of the Melbourne Research Scholarship vary depending on your circumstance and may include one or more of the following: fortnightly living allowance, relocation allowance,  paid sick, maternity and parenting leave, full fee remission (international students only), and Overseas Student Health Cover (international students only).

University of Sydney International Scholarships (Australia)
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).  The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty.  The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years.

University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (Canada)
The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) are merit-based awards that are open to students of any nationality who will be registered as full-time graduate students (Master or Ph.D.) at the University of Manitoba. Students in all fields of graduate study (with the exception of those in the Faculty of Medicine and in the Master of Business Administration (MBA)) are eligible to apply. The fellowships are valued at $18,000 for Ph.D. students or $14,000 for Master’s students for a 12-month period.

University-wide Scholarships for Masters Degrees Only 

The University of the West of England Chancellor’s Scholarships
The University of the West of England, Bristol offers the Chancellor’s Scholarship to outstanding international students undertaking any Postgraduate programme offered at the University except MBA, BPTC, LPC, GDL, MSc Robotics, Ph.D.‘s and continuing professional development courses.  The scholarships cover the full tuition fee.

Bristol Think Big Scholarships (UK)
Bristol University is investing £500,000 to help the brightest and best international students come to the University of Bristol to pursue any full-time Undergraduate programme (except Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science) or Postgraduate programme.   The awards cover between 25 and 100 percent of tuition fees.

University of Sussex Chancellor’s International Scholarships 
University of Sussex Chancellor’s International Scholarships are available in the majority of Sussex Schools and are awarded on the basis of academic performance and potential to non-EU international students who have applied for and been offered a place for eligible full-time Postgraduate Taught degrees at the University of Sussex.  The scholarship is 50% off the international student tuition fees and is offered for one year.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding non-EU/EEA students pursuing any MA, MSc, and LL.M programmes offered at Leiden University. The scholarships come in the form of the following: €10,000 of the tuition fee, €15,000 of the tuition fee, or total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee.

University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships (Netherlands)
Maastricht University (UM) offers the UM High Potential Scholarships to talented students from outside the EEA to follow any UM master’s programme or graduate programme for professionals offered at the University, except for the School of Business and Economics.  The scholarships cover tuition fees, living expenses per month, insurance, and visa costs.

Uppsala University IPK Scholarships (Sweden)
The Uppsala University offers the Uppsala IPK scholarships to first-year applicants from outside the EU/EEA who wish to pursue a Master’s Degree Programme offered at the University. The scholarship covers the tuition fee.

ETH Excellence Scholarships (Switzerland)
The ETH Excellence and Master Scholarship programmes are open to excellent students both from the ETH and from other universities (national and international) wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich.  The scholarships include a tuition fee waiver and a stipend for living and study expenses.

University of Lausanne Master’s Grants for Foreign Students (Switzerland)
Through the UNIL Master’s Grants, the University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers scholarships to international students who wish to pursue any Masters’s Degree offered at the University (except the Master of Medicine, Master of Arts in Sciences and Practices of Education, Master of Law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne, Master of Law in Criminal Sciences, judiciary mention, and all the MAS (3rd cycle programs).   The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for the duration of the programme.

The Université Paris-Saclay International Masters Scholarships (France)
The Université Paris-Saclay International Masters Scholarships are open to foreign students wishing to obtain any Master’s Programme offered at the University. The Université Paris-Saclay scholarship is €10,000 for one year. A maximum of €1,000 for travel and VISA expenses is also awarded depending on the candidate’s country of origin.
