Elon Musk Fires Twitter CEO
Elon Musk fired Twitter’s CEO and some other top executives to start his ownership.
Musk sacked three of Twitter’s top executives on Thursday after finalizing a $44bn agreement to purchase the business.
According to several media reports quoting sources, CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and head of legal, policy, and trust Vijaya Gadde were fired.
An unidentified source told the Washington Post that Twitter’s chief counsel, Sean Edgett, was fired.
Reuters claimed that Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters escorted Agrawal and Gadde after Musk’s termination.
Twitter and Musk have not confirmed firings.

Musk, a free-speech absolutist, has argued with the company’s leadership over social media management.
Tesla’s CEO posted a meme with Gadde’s face in April, implying left-wing bias in moderation.
Conservatives’ criticisms about Big Tech’s censorship have focused on Gadde. The Indian-born executive, Twitter’s senior lawyer, permanently suspended former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account for inciting violence during the January 6 Capitol protests.
Musk tweeted a faeces emoji in response to Agrawal’s May thread arguing that it was impossible to count spam accounts on Twitter. Musk tried to pull out of his $44bn bid to acquire the firm after accusing officials of hiding bots and spam accounts on the network. Twitter’s legal fight to enforce the transaction revealed tense text conversations between the two leaders over the company’s future.
Agrawal, who relocated from Mumbai to the US in 2005, was chief technology officer until succeeding Twitter founder Jack Dorsey last year. In 2020, he said MIT Technology Review that the corporation should “concentrate less on worrying about free speech, but more about how the times have changed”.
Musk’s attorneys accused top executives Agrawal, Gadde, and Edgett of ordering Twitter whistleblower Peiter Zatko to remove proof of the company’s poor cybersecurity procedures in court filings submitted earlier this month.
Musk’s Twitter intentions are unclear, although he has criticized the platform’s moderation procedures and called for a “shared digital town square” where many viewpoints may be aired.
Conservatives have hailed Musk’s acquisition of Twitter as a way to break Silicon Valley’s online political monopoly, while others fear it would increase hate speech and disinformation.
