WAEC has a new suggestion from an educationist who believes it is time WAEC starts to upload Scanned WASSCE & BECE Marked Scripts and to monetize it so that stakeholders can access the scripts after they have paid for it.
The controversies surrounding the massive failure of BECE 2021 candidates and the resulting poor grades and the reactions of parents and students to the school placements have not gone down. Suggestions from various quarters as to what can be done to improve the credibility of the results are endless.
The latest to wade into the issue is Hon. Jerry Akporhor, The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Founder at Informed Teachers Network, Fellow at Educate Africa Institute.
He has called on WAEC to consider uploading scanned copies of the WASSCE & BECE Marked scripts and results for students who sit for the examination. He added that this can be done and monetized thus, parents and students would be required to procure a checker to access their marked scripts. The suggestion is to ensure candidates and other stakeholders who feel they have been shortchanged in the marking for their scripts can check
In a Facebook post, he said, “WAEC should consider uploading scanned copies of marked WASSCE and BECE scripts on the results portal alongside the results. They can still monetize it as they are doing with the results and placement so that those who have doubts about their grades and are interested in finding out what went wrong can buy vouchers and check.
In a related development, WAEC has responded to the allegation from private schools that the council intentionally marked the examination scripts of private school candidates in the 2021 BECE. According to WAEC, there was nothing like that since it had over 10,000 examiners nationwide who did the marking and there was no way it could have acted as been alleged.
The GES is also championing a plan to ensure that private school candidates who want to gain admission into category A schools write an entrance examination.
