- Summary: The U.S. Mission in Accra, Ghana is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Upholsterer. Work hours for this position is full time 40 hours per week.

Duties
The incumbent repairs and recovers upholstered furniture and liaises with the carpenters to refinish wooden surfaces. S/he is responsible for procuring draperies for all U.S. Government residences by working with curtain vendors to measure, fabricate, and install curtains. The incumbent will make repairs to the curtains as necessary. The incumbent will ensure that adequate window treatments are installed in Post’s 170+ residences, including the two official residences. This includes drapes, sheers, and curtains. Liaise with curtain vendors to measure and procure new window treatments as necessary.
Qualifications and Evaluations
- Requirements:
- EXPERIENCE: At least two years of journeyman level experience as an upholsterer and/or seamstress. Previous experience working with vendors, managing a professional relationship with them, and monitoring the quality of the service provided.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must know how to measure and cut patterns. Must be able to use a sewing machine and make first echelon repairs on all sewing tools. Must be able to install and repair curtain hardware.
- Education Requirements:
- Completion of secondary school as well as completion of vocational training, apprenticeship, or three years’ experience recognized as producing journeyman upholsterer skills are required.

- LANGUAGE: Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must know how to use the tools of the trade and have full journeyman knowledge of established trade practices and procedures. Must be able to work independently and judge situations quickly and correctly. Must be able to keep accurate records and develop long-term plans for curtain replacement.
