This was the second deadly accident in California in less than a week prior to the tragedy that occurred on Friday night. When it went down in the metropolis that divides Nevada and California, the chopper was reportedly on its way to Las Vegas.The horrifying helicopter crash reportedly left six individuals fearing for their lives, according to the Daily Mail. Herbert Wigwe, a former CEO of Access Holdings, and Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, were among the notable personalities killed in the disaster.
Officials have announced that a number of electronic devices and onboard equipment have been retrieved from the crash scene for the purpose of conducting additional investigations. After officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) documented the actions carried out on the first full day of inquiry at the site, the images were released.
On Friday night, a helicopter crashed in a remote area of the Mojave desert near the California-Nevade border, killing six people. Among them were the chief executive officer of Nigeria’s biggest bank, his wife, and their son.Along with Herbert Wigwe, Doreen Chizoba, and Chizi, the former group chairman of Nigeria’s stock exchange, Abimola Ogunbanjo, and the wife and son of Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe were all killed in the crash. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director general of the World Trade Organization, initially made the names public in an X post. Their identities were also verified by personnel from Access Bank. The tragic disaster occurred on Friday at approximately 8:45 p.m. while the helicopter involved was taking off from Palm Springs Airport in California for Boulder City, Nevada, which is approximately 26 miles (41 km) southeast of Las Vegas, the site of this year’s Super Bowl, on Sunday.
Reportedly, the plane was an EC-130 from Airbus Helicopters.Authorities were notified about the crash at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Friday night, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The identities of the six individuals on board, including the two pilots of the helicopter, were withheld until confirmation of their deaths.Two federal agencies are looking into what caused the crash: the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA.On Sunday, investigators will reportedly return to the crash scene to take more drone footage, according to CNN. According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft crashed and then caught fire. Additionally, there was rain and a wintry mix in the sky when the accident occurred.
