WAEC cancels 4108 subject results of 2024 WASSCE candidates and more
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has canceled the results of 4,108 subjects for candidates and withheld many more results for schools and students following the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
According to the council, the 4,108 subject results were cancelled due to candidates entering the examination halls with prepared notes, textbooks, printed materials, and other unauthorized items.
In a press release, WAEC also stated that the entire results of 483 students were cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination hall.
Additionally, the results of 781 students and the entire results of 209 other candidates have been affected due to suspected examination malpractices of varying degrees.
The council further revealed that the results of 319 students were withheld for alleged collusion. WAEC is currently investigating these cases and will make a final decision upon the conclusion of its investigations.
WAEC disclosed that the performance of students in the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates showed a marginal decline in all core subjects except Mathematics, which exhibited an upward improvement over the last four years.
The results “show fluctuating trends in the performance of candidates in English Language, Social Studies, and Integrated Science, with performance in Mathematics showing an upward trend over the last four-year period,” the press release stated.
