The North Eastern Regional towns of Walewale and Nalerigu were gripped with excitement on Monday as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, freshly minted as the NPP flagbearer, embarked on a special homecoming visit. The visit, aimed at expressing gratitude to supporters and traditional rulers, marked Dr. Bawumia’s first return to the region since his historic election as the NPP flagbearer earlier this month.

Transitioning from a bus to an open-top vehicle to respond to the resounding cheers, Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by MPs and party executives, acknowledged the enthusiastic crowd lining the Walewale – Bolga highway.

The spectacle continued as the entourage made its way to Nalerigu, with cheers echoing from Langbinsi through Gambaga to the heart of Nalerigu itself. The crowd, a mix of young and old, created a tumultuous reception that reflected the magnitude of the moment.
In Nalerigu, Dr. Bawumia engaged in discussions with the Nayiri and his elders before addressing the eagerly awaiting crowd. Speaking passionately, he highlighted the upcoming 2024 elections, framing it as a contest between his track record as Vice President and John Mahama’s tenure as a former President.
