WASSCE 2022 Maths papers leaked – Students didn’t leak, leave them alone (Public Opinion)

Parents and teachers have reacted to WAEC’s decision to mark the Elective and Core Maths papers of the ongoing 2022 WASSCE strictly. Reactions monitored on social media point to the fact that the public believes candidates taking the examination do not work in WAEC and unless a staff of WAEC leaks a set of questions for his or her personal gain, candidates will never have access to it.
Reporting the leakage of Elective Mathematics and Core Mathematics in its second update on the ongoing WASSCE said…
” With respect to Mathematics (Elective) Paper 2 and Mathematics (Core) Paper 2 however, reports were received of some hand written extracts of some questions on monitored platforms. The Council would as such, deploy various internationally accepted assessment procedures to guarantee the credibility of results for the two papers. Investigations are ongoing and any further developments will be communicated accordingly.”

The general public does not see the ethical principles in WAEC deciding to mark scripts with “iron hands” which will amount to punishing candidates for a wrong they did not commit.
It is clear from our observations that, parents and teachers are not enthused and have therefore called on WAEC not to punish WASSCE candidates over leaked Maths papers.
It looks as if WAEC is only interested in the punishment of the wrong persons. They should trace the source of the leakages and disclose the names of their permanent employees who are behind the leakage of the examination questions.

Instead, they called for the examination council to do their investigations, fish out those who leaked the papers and punish such persons.
“The question is, who always leaks the papers??” One of the commentators quizzed.
“There is nothing like marking a paper with iron hands ….a correct answer is a correct answer. Stop deceiving people. If they can’t police their papers, and it gets leaked, that’s all, the kids will score .it is that simple” another comment reacting to the post read.
Ahead of the 2022 WASSCE, WAEC made the public believe that they have put in place one of the best security systems, including serialization of papers and the use of security padlocks. However, there seems to be a problem within WAEC’s own security setup. It is a problem with the examination council and not students, who only have access to the questions if they are leaked.
