Bright Asiedu, 2017 NSMQ contestant for St. Thomas Aquinas graduates from Accra College of Medicine Sweeps All 4 Top Awards
Bright Asiedu, one of the great minds that contested the 2017 NSMQ for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, has graduated from Accra College of Medicine (ACM).
After his contest for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, he found himself in the College of Medicine (ACM), where he distinguished himself in all major subjects for the period of his study.
His journey as a student at the College of Medicine (ACM) was made possible by the scholarship he obtained to study at the college. Additionally, Bright Asiedu was the first recipient of the prestigious ACM-NSMQ Scholarship that the College of Medicine introduced in 2017.
His nearly six years of studying medicine ended on a good note as he swept all the top four awards at the graduation event organised by the college.
Bright graduated with the following awards: four top awards on the day.
1. Prof. George Dugbartey’s prize for the overall best student in Pharmacology
2. Prof. George Dugbartey’s prize for the overall best student in Physiology
3. The Bertha Ayi Foundation’s prize for the overall best student in Microbiology
4. The Hawkrad Group’s prize for the overall best student in Anaesthesia
The awards in Pharmacology, Physiology, Microbiology and Anaesthesia are a testament to his all wrong knowledge and display of brilliance.
Pharmacology:
Imagine being a detective, cracking the code of medications. In Pharmacology, you study how drugs work within the body, from their journey through the system to their effects on different organs and cells. You understand how to prescribe, administer, and monitor drugs safely and effectively, becoming a master of medicine’s chemical tools.
Physiology:
Think of the body as a complex orchestra, with each organ playing its part. In Physiology, you learn the rhythm of it all! You explore the intricate dance of cells, tissues, and systems, from the beating of the heart to the spark of a nerve impulse. Understanding how the body functions in health and disease is the crucial melody that underpins your medical knowledge.

Microbiology:
Welcome to the hidden world of the tiniest beings – microbes! Microbiology unveils the invisible players shaping our health. You’ll dive into the realm of bacteria, viruses, and parasites, understanding their lifecycles, their interactions with the body, and how they cause disease. Knowing these silent enemies is key to fighting infections and protecting your patients.
Anaesthesia:
Imagine wielding the magic wand of sleep during surgery. Anaesthesia delves into the art and science of pain control and unconsciousness. You’ll learn how to choose the right anaesthetic drugs, monitor patients during surgery, and manage pain after the operation. It’s like being a skilled conductor, ensuring your patients’ journey through surgery is safe and comfortable.
In the 2017 NSMQ finals, Prempeh College were crowned winners, while Bright Asiedu and his St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School team placed second in a keenly contented finals some six years ago.
