The National Council of Private School teachers (NCOPST) as part of its effort to ensure teachers employed in private schools are not taken advantage of in the planned nationwide registration and issuance of temporary teaching licence to private school teachers, it has called on the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) not to enslave teachers by seizing their temporal licences should if the teachers decide to resign or leave the school for other engagements. This call is a reaction to a press release by GNAPS in which it indicates it such an action will be taken.
NCOPST while responding to the decision by GNAPS has said it will fight every attempt by private school owners to seize the Temporal Licence to be issued to private school teachers.

According to the NCOPST, school owners GNAPS had released a presser indicating their resolve to confiscate temporal licence for private school teachers by ensuring the said licences are issued to the schools so that in the event a teacher leaves the school, he or she will forfeit the licence.

Reacting to this plan, NCOPST has outlined important information for private school teachers on the licence and called on them to know their rights and to report any school owner who attempts to confiscate their licence.
What teachers need to know to avoid being exploited by private school owners, according to the NCOPST.
- The licence registration by the National Teaching Council is the sole responsibility of the Council and not employers.
- Private school teachers kick against the use of the employers’ benevolence in supporting them to acquire the Temporary Teacher Licence as bait to enslave teachers in their schools without any legal basis.
- The NTC is not under any obligation to issue an individual’s temporary licence to an employer union (school owners).
- The only institution with the power to confiscate or revoke or cancel the licence of a teacher is the NTC.
The NCOPST believes the move may be on the blind side of the NTC and further indicated that it will be unfortunate if the NTC was aware of the plans of the school owners.
