When it comes to economic management, NDC is like a ‘kiosk’ university; we are like KNUST, Legon – Dr. Amoah Stephen

In a recent parliamentary debate on the 2024 budget, Dr. Amoah Stephen, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso constituency, passionately asserted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) superior economic management skills compared to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Using a vivid analogy, Dr. Amoah Stephen likened the NDC’s economic prowess to that of a ‘kiosk’ university, while positioning the NPP as akin to renowned institutions like the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana.
Dr. Amoah Stephen admitted that the NPP government is not without imperfections, acknowledging challenges in the current state of Ghana’s economy. However, he emphasized that historical data supports the claim that the NPP excels in economic management when compared to the NDC.
During the parliamentary session, Dr. Amoah Stephen stated, “When it comes to the economic management of this country, historically, at present, and in the future, NDC is like a kiosk (university)… where we have courses for 2 years, 2 weeks, 6 months, you get a certificate. We (the NPP) are like KNUST and Legon. You can’t compare them to us. They are on a different page.”

The Deputy Minister’s analogy sparks a conversation about the contrasting economic strategies of the two major political parties in Ghana. By framing the NPP as a prestigious university and the NDC as a lower-tier institution, Dr. Amoah Stephen seeks to highlight what he perceives as the NPP’s long-standing commitment to sound economic policies.
As the debate continues, Ghanaians are left to evaluate the effectiveness of each party’s economic plans and consider how these proposals align with the nation’s future development. The metaphorical comparison introduced by Dr. Amoah Stephen adds a layer of vivid imagery to the ongoing discourse, shaping public opinion on the economic competence of the political players involved.
