Many people were surprised when Xavi put Pedri on the left wing and Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Sergio Busquets in the middle of the field to start against Athletic Bilbao.
Here’s what the coach of Barcelona said about his choice after the game.
“We knew that they would put us under a lot of pressure. So, we played with someone else in the middle. My plan was clear to the team.
“Pedri is one of our players who can play in a lot of different positions. Other players like Gavi, Sergi Roberto, and Marcos Alonso can do the same.”
Even though Pedri used to play on the wing, he often moved closer to the middle to help the midfield. This made it easier for Barcelona to keep the ball and move it.
