2022 World Teachers Day is Important for Educators: Let’s celebrate them
As we mark World Teachers Day on 5th October 2022, we need to ask ourselves why should celebrating World Teachers Day be important to us all and to our gallant educators across the world.
It has been 36 years since I got promoted from Basic one, but I still remember vividly, my class one teacher for all her hard work. I remember her passionate guidance and her calling us one after the other to come and identify the images in the English textbook as part of our end-of-term examinations in 1986. I remember that big cane on her table which scared you and compelled discipline to control your behaviour and every move in the class. Furthermore, I remember her smiles each time she taught us a lesson and the class responds in excitement with the answers. I remember the seeds she sowed in my blockhead as a class-one learner which have translated into who I am today. I remember all the teachers who contributed their quota to the knowledge I have today and what I have achieved with it.
The 2022 World Teachers Day falls on 5th October and will be celebrated under the theme: “The Transforming of Education Begins With The Teacher” Indeed, education starts and ends with teachers. Take them out of the equation and all you have is Cos 90.
We all can agree that during the covid and the post-covid-19, we have seen the valuable importance of teachers yet many governments have failed to make teachers their priority in the education sector.
In today’s world, education is rapidly changing with technology and the internet playing a big role in how we learn and teach.
In the midst of these changes, there are many people who dedicate their lives to making sure that everyone has access to high-quality education.
There are teachers who lead students through lectures, tutors who one-on-one help them grasp difficult concepts, and educators who bring hands-on learning into schools.
Now more than ever, we need great teachers to help us succeed. Every person deserves a teacher in their life that sparks a fire inside of them because, without them, we would never get anywhere in life.
These people not only have high standards for themselves, but also for others around them. So if you’re looking to educate yourself even further about why celebrating World Teachers Day is so important for educators, keep reading!
Why Celebrating World Teachers Day is Important for Educators
The main reason why celebrating World Teachers Day is important for educators is that they deserve to be appreciated.
We often take teachers for granted because they’re so hardworking, but we don’t stop to acknowledge all of the good that they do.
On average, teachers spend approximately 40 hours each week planning and grading assignments in addition to their regular hours in the classroom.
In addition to this, they normally spend their weekends attending workshops to further their professional development and help them bring their best to their students.

Another reason why celebrating World Teachers Day is important for educators is because it’s a great way to show appreciation for all of the hard work they do.
Teachers have one of the toughest jobs in the world because not only do they have to keep their students engaged, but they must also make sure that everyone is grasping the concepts being taught.
Not only do they have to teach their students but they also have to make themselves available to them outside of class.
Educators tend to spend a lot of time outside of the classroom grading, meeting with parents, and planning lessons for their students.
Whether you’re a parent, student, or an educator, World Teachers Day is a great way to celebrate the people in our lives who have made a difference.
It gives us an opportunity to acknowledge the many different types of teachers in our lives by showing our appreciation to them.

I have seen how as an educator, we have individuals in our classrooms and lecture halls burned out to light up empty minds into fertile and useful ones beaming with new and improved knowledge that the world feeds on. Government and government agencies must wake up and make the teacher the central focus of our education is to improve and become better. Parents must place premium value on teachers which teach their wards and learners must give teachers the needed respect and humble themselves to learn from them.
Let us reflect on the theme of the 2022 World Teachers Day “The Transforming of Education Begins With The Teacher” for teachers are the cornerstone of any meaningful education system in the world.
