2023 School Placement: Can a student change school, programme or day to boarding? Since the release of the 2023 School placement, students have been asking three important questions. We aim at providing answers to the questions below.
Can I change my school after enrolment?
No, very often the Ghana Education Service does not allow students to change the schools they have been placed in.
When a student is placed automatically in a school, the student can not change the placement.
But if a student uses the self-placement Module, he or she can change the school, programme, and accommodation as often as possible. However, once he or she is enrolled in the school, the change cannot be done again.
The school can however be changed if a male candidate is placed in a Girl’s school and vice versa, or when the student is placed in a school meant for only candidates who are blind or deaf and vice versa.
Can I change my programme?
No, candidates cannot change programmes they are enrolled in unless the GES allows for this after enrolment.
Can I change my accommodation from Day to boarding?
No, candidates cannot change their accommodation type from Day to boarding.
In a related development, out of 547,329 registered candidates, 538,399 candidates qualified for placement. He added that a total of 322,780, representing 69.24% of the qualified students, have been placed in at least one of their choices.
However, 165,601 candidates, representing 37.76% could not be matched with any of their choices. All such students will therefore do self-placement.
A total of 8,930 candidates were not placed in any senior high school or any TVET institution in the country.
These are likely to be the candidates who obtained grade 9 in English or mathematics.
Such candidates may have to opt for private SHS or resit the BECE in 2023, pass and reapply for placement.
The Ghana Education Service has also reacted to the trending issue that suggested the School Placement Portal was not loading.
According to the GES, the issue is a result of the number of persons visiting the website at a particular time.

GES added that the website is currently working fine. All persons having issues accessing the site will have to wait for a while or access it later.
