Question 1 In a small village, people of different religious backgrounds lived peacefully, respected each other, joined in each other’s festivals and helped one another. When Amani came to the village, he had troubles fitting in because he felt his religious beliefs were better than the others. As a member of the village, you became worried and decided to discuss with your friend in the next village.

• (a) Describe to your friend four actions or behaviours Amani is likely to exhibit because of his beliefs and which are likely to disrupt the peace of the village. [8 marks]
• (b) Explain to Amani four reasons for which he should reconsider his line of thought. [12 marks]

Answer two questions only from this section.

Question 2 Amina, a young woman, had dreams of finding a partner who shared her values and beliefs as a Muslim. She met Abu and after talking for some time, they started thinking of marriage. She shared her plans with you as a friend. As a student of R.M.E:

• (a) Explain to her four conditions they would have to meet if they want their marriage to be valid. [8 marks]
• (b) Outline to them two challenges they are likely to encounter as a couple so that they can prepare their minds. [4 marks]
• (c) Advise Amina as a friend on four key principles they would need to practice in their intended marriage to sustain it. [8 marks]

Question 3 Akosua lived in a village surrounded by a beautiful forest. On one of the days, she decided to walk through the forest to gather some firewood for the house. She was shocked at what she saw; the once beautiful forest had lost its glory. She went home sad and worried, wondering what might have happened to the forest, and how the village could save it.

• (a) Explain to Akosua four activities the villagers might have engaged in to bring the forest to its current state. [8 marks]
• (b) State two ways Akosua’s village can bring back the glory of the forest. [4 marks]
• (c) Highlight four reasons in support of why Akosua’s village should save the forest. [8 marks]

Question 4 Nancy and her friends laughed at an old woman who was struggling with a heavy basket. Later at home, Nancy felt guilty of her actions and told her father about it. Her father encouraged and advised her that the most important thing is taking responsibility of one’s actions and taking steps to make amends.

• (a) Identify four deeds apart from what Nancy and her friend did that most young people do which are considered unacceptable in the society. [8 marks]
• (b) Explain to Nancy four steps she can take if she listens to her father’s advice. [12 marks]

Question 5 During a visit to their uncle’s community, Kofi and Adamu observed how people went about their lives in the community. Throughout their stay, they noticed that there is a way the people lived their lives as if they were being guided by some rules and regulations. They became curious and wondered why people cannot live the way they want as members of the community.
