According to newly gathered evidence, the Bank of Ghana has denied reports that it is actively assisting certain operators at Cowlane in Accra to unlawfully move monies overseas
In a statement published on Tuesday, November 1, the Central Bank said that the accusation made by Dr. Kwabena Nyarko Otoo, Director of Research at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), is untrue and “very dangerous.”
“We encourage the general people to dismiss these views entirely and be confident that we, as a central bank, are focused on our mission of price stability and are doing all in our power to minimize the growing general level of prices,” the statement stated.
It went on to say that BoG was acting in accordance with the law and guided by its core values of accountability, professionalism, and integrity.” BoG is also working with other stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, to discourage and penalize the activities of illegal foreign exchange operators in the country.
“Finally,” the statement ended, “we warn the public to refrain from making any such baseless complaints in the future and to cross-check same with BoG.”
