Accra Institute of Technology Graduates 4 Doctors and 27 PhD Candidates
At its 20th graduation ceremony on August 31, 2024, in Accra, the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), one of the fastest-growing private tertiary institutions in Ghana, graduated 4 doctors and 27 Ph.D. candidates.
The four PhD graduates specialized in finance, business administration, and computing-related doctorate degrees, while the 27
Ph.D. candidates cut across marketing, finance, taxation, leadership, and education, among others. We expect the Ph.D. candidates to complete their study programmes within the next two years.
Speaking at the graduation, Prof. Emeritus Ivan Addae-Mensah, Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, revealed that the institution was meeting its envisaged milestones as a growing and dynamic institution. He added that the achievements were signs that AIT was becoming a world-class university.
The institution has established direct affiliations with local and international universities, such as KNUST and Open University of Malaysia, to deliver cutting-edge education and research-based programmes that meet the needs of the 21st century.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US served as the model for Accra Institute of Technology (AIT).
The Chairman of the AIT Board further urged graduates to leave their mark on life.
The institution also graduated 23 masters students, 272 students with various bachelors from KNUST, and another 32 who studied programmes offered by Open University of Malaysia.
Out of the 272 first-degree graduates, 6 obtained first-class honours, 69 obtained second-class hours, 194 obtained second-class honours, and 3 obtained third-class honours.
Speaking at the graduation, Prof. Clement Dzidonu, the president of AIT, revealed that the institution’s Ph.D. students are spread across public and private universities in the country, according to GTEC observations.
The graduation also marked the 12th time the institution has graduated PhD students. “This major achievement for a barely twelve-year-old university makes AIT the first private university in Ghana to successfully offer and graduate students on an internationally benchmarked PhD programme. “This is no small achievement if put in the context of the fact that Ghana’s PHD per capita is extremely low,” Prof. Clement Dzidonu said.
He disclosed that the institution is leading the way in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in a transformative way in education and research. According to him, AI is reshaping industries and economies globally as an emerging technology and has the potential to revolutionize education at all levels, with a particular significant effect on higher education and research.

Prof. Dzidonu continued, “AIT is at the forefront as it has integrated AI into its operations from student life cycle to recruitment, admission, programme development, delivery, assessment, and cutting-edge research support.”
Students from Ghana and other African countries, including Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and the Congo, graduated on the day. The success story of AIT and its academic programmes are expected to become even more attractive to local and international students when the next academic year starts. Students seeking to enroll in AIT’s graduate and undergraduate programmes are encouraged to contact the institutions or visit the AIT’s website for further details.
