An annual bonus of not less than 3.5 months has been approved for Ghana Port and Habour Authority Staff. The letter confirming and authorizing the payment of the 2022 annual bonus dated 17th November 2022 further indicated that the approved bonus was tax inclusive.
It directed that the said payments should be effected to all categories of Ghana Port and Habour Authority Staff as per the following classifications.
Permanent or contract staff who have worked for one year and above were to be paid a full annual bonus equal to three years and six months’ pay. (i.e 3.5 months basic salary)
Permanent or contract staff who have worked for less than one year but six (6) months and above were to be paid an annual bonus equal to 1.75 months’ pay. (i.e 1.75 months basic salary)
Permanent or contract staff who have worked for three (3) months or more but less than six (6) months were to be paid an annual bonus equal to 1.16 months’ pay. (i.e 1.16 months basic salary)
The directive further instructed that retired staff who worked six (6) months or more during the year will be entitled to a full bonus of 3.5 months basic salary; retired staff who worked for less than six (6) months will be entitled to 1.75 months’ basic salary as a bonus.
Currently, the government is in a crunch negotiation of the 2023 basic pay which it seeks to peg at 8% whiles organized labour expects nothing less than 12% given the current and projected economic conditions in the country.
