Asiedu Nketia Declares Intention To Contest NDC Chairmanship Position

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who is the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made it official that he wants to run for the chairmanship position of the NDC.
Mr. Nketia made the announcement in a joint interview with the morning shows on Accra100.5FM and CTV today, Thursday, October 13, 2022.
The NDC scribe told the hosts Emmanuel Quarshie (The Hitman) and Nana Out Darko, “Yes, I plan to pick up a form to run for chairmanship when nominations open.”
On December 17, 2022, the NDC goes to congress.
Mr. Nketia also shot down claims that the position of General Secretary might be weakened when he steps down from it.
He said, “I’ll have to give up something to fit into something else. I did a good job, so the next person will be able to build on what I did. Only dictators don’t want their jobs to be taken over by others.”
He asked, “How do people know I’ll be better than the future general secretary when we don’t know who will be in that position in the future?”

When asked if his plan to run for chairman won’t make him and the current chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, compete with each other, Mr. Nketia said that competition is part of democracy, so he doesn’t see anything wrong with running against the current chairman.
“Can there be democracy without competition, or are we giving up on democracy? “That way of thinking is anti-democratic,” he said. “Democracy must bring competition so that the best will win…”
Mr. Nketia has been the General Secretary of the NDC for a longest time.
In 2005, he became the General Secretary of the NDC.
