Bawumia to introduce Buy Ghana First policy and cancel importation of school uniforms from China
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia if elected President in the 2024 general election says his government will introduce the ‘Buy Ghana first’ policy and cancel Ghana’s importation of school uniforms from China.
Speaking to community stakeholders in the Okaikoi Central Constituency Accra, Dr Bawumia explained that the Buy Ghana First policy is designed to support and promote the local industry and private sector under his administration.
“I hear we are currently buying school uniforms from China. That will not happen under the Buy Ghana First policy,” the Vice-President said.
He told the constituents “We will also ensure that furniture for schools is not imported from other countries. Whatever we can buy from Ghana, we will purchase locally to help boost our local industry, support the private sector, and create more jobs for our people.”
The flagbearer’s move comes after Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum at a forum dubbed ‘The free SHS story’ hinted at the government’s plans to change the brown and yellow uniforms worn by pupils of basic schools in the country.
“We are changing the uniforms of public basic schools in the country. The yellow and brown that you see now, you will see no more. Reformation is coming to a community near you, and you will see it,” he revealed.
The Minister in Charge of Education speaking at the event said “We are switching to blue and white. We are painting all the schools to give it an attractive outlook. This is the transformation Ghana deserves and it is coming.”
