Bawumia will give NPP a new face, give John Mahama a real showdown – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, the CEO of the State Transport Company (STC), has made a passionate appeal to delegates of the NPP to elect VP Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election. He believes that choosing Bawumia will set the stage for a formidable contest against former President John Mahama, the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Nana Akomea pointed out that the NDC has often accused the NPP of being reluctant to select a Northerner as their leader. By choosing Bawumia, the NPP can dispel this notion. “Dr. Bawumia will make that propaganda useless,” he emphasized while seeking support from delegates during an appearance on Peace FM’s morning show.

He expressed strong confidence that a Bawumia vs. Mahama contest would be an intense showdown. “Bawumia against John Mahama, one on one, a real showdown…showdown number 2!” he exclaimed. He also highlighted that this choice would rebrand the party and make it more inclusive.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential election on Saturday, November 4, with four candidates vying for the flagbearer position. The contenders include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, and leading party member Thomas Addai Nimoh.

The election has generated substantial interest and is being referred to as the “showdown” due to the expected fierce competition, particularly between Vice President Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, who are considered the frontrunners in the race.
