BREAKING NEWS: NDC Executives To Meet Minority Caucus Today
After the party’s leadership in the legislative chamber changed, the national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will meet with their Members of Parliament later today.
The meeting had been scheduled for January 31, 2023, however, it was postponed due to an intervention by the party’s Council of Elders.
Later, the party changed the time of the gathering to today, February 6, 2023, in Parliament.
The conference was called as a result of the opposition to the Minority’s leadership change, which saw Cassiel Ato-Forson succeed Haruna Iddrisu as a leader.
The meeting between the party leadership and the minority caucus, according to political scientist Abdul Jahlil Ateku, is a chance for all issues related to the change in leadership to be amicably resolved.
“In light of the circumstances, the party leadership claims that they consulted with those who claim there was none. I believe this is a chance to work out the differences. For them right now, that is what matters the most. They discuss the problems and receive the new leadership’s backing.
The goal of the meeting is to obtain the support of all angry Minority MPs while outlining the rationale for the reorganization of the caucus.
After the national executives of the NDC changed the group’s leadership, there was discord among the participants.
As part of the leadership changes, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, took over as Deputy Minority Leader from James Klutse Avedzi, MP for Ketu North, while Kwame Governs Agbodza, MP for Asawase, took over as Minority Chief Whip from Muntaka Mubarak.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, claimed that despite the controversy surrounding the changes they made to their leadership in Parliament, the party is not split.
He asserts that the NDC is still cohesive and that the bulk of its members supports the reforms.
A petition to reject the party’s decision due to lack of consultation was signed by several MPs. A different group of MPs also asked the NDC leadership to disregard requests for the reorganization to be undone.
