BREAKING: Teacher trainees allowance REDUCED to Ghc149

The Government of Ghana has been reduced downward from a GHS204.00 monthly Teacher Trainees Allowance to GHS149.00 per month effective this academic year. The new teacher trainees allowance component represents (GHS55) 27 % reduction in percentage terms.
Under the agreement, eligible trainees will receive an allowance for three months, which will help to ease the financial burden they have been facing while they are training.
The reduction in the teacher trainees allowance component was communicated by the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) in a 24th July dated letter.
According to the TTAG, the reduced allowance will be disbursed this week to all qualified trainees.
The association furthered that, the reduction was based on a recommendation by PRINCOF to the Ministry of Education.
The reduction in the allowance will take effect in the current school year to provide more resources for feeding trainees. Although this may seem like a minor setback, the NEC remains committed to advocating for the safety of teacher trainees and working towards the best possible outcomes for them.
The basic allowance is paid to all teacher trainees, regardless of their level of study. The book and research allowance is paid to teacher trainees who are enrolled in courses that require them to purchase textbooks or conduct research. The insurance premium is paid to cover the cost of health insurance for teacher trainees.
