Charles Adu Boahen
Charles Adu Boahen, who was fired from his job as Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, has denied that he bought and sold influence and used the name of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to get bribes from investors.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas, a well-known investigative journalist, is said to have caught Mr. Adu Boahen asking an investor to pay an appearance fee of $200,000 so that he and the Vice President could meet. The piece hasn’t been shown yet.
Mr. Adu Boahen is also said to have told the undercover investor that if he wanted his investment to go faster, he should promise the Vice President that he would hire some of the Vice President’s relatives.
On Monday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo fired Mr. Adu Boahen, which took effect right away.
Eugene Arhin, who is in charge of communications at the Jubilee House, said in a statement that the President made the decision after learning about the accusations made against the Minister in the article called “Galamsey Economy.”
“The President talked to Mr. Adu Boahen, and after that, he decided to end his job.”
But in a statement, Mr. Adu Boahen said that he was set up in 2018 and that all the accusations against him are false.
He did say, though, that he would help the authorities do a full investigation to show that he was not guilty.
