The late former Black Stars player Christian Atsu Twasam’s mortal remains will be received by the government of Ghana, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
His family and Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey would travel with the remains on a Turkish Airlines flight, which would land in Accra at 7:40 p.m. on Sunday.
The family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the government will receive the remains at the Kotoka International Airport when they arrive from Istanbul, Türkiye.
The 31-year-old was discovered dead on February 18 after spending 12 days trapped beneath the rubble.
Atsu, who played for Chelsea FC, Newcastle, and Everton during stints in the UK, was a part of the catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 and claimed more than 40,000 lives.
When the unfortunate incident occurred, the talented player was a member of Hatayspor FC in Turkey.
