Don’t Invite Final Year Students For WASSCE Registration – GES Warns Headmasters
Senior High School (SHS) headmasters have been warned by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to avoid inviting final year students from vacation to register or complete the ongoing 2024 WASSCE registration.
This directive comes in response to reports that some Form 3 students, who are already on vacation, have been asked to return to school for registration purposes.

Dr. Nkansah emphasized that there is no need for students to return to school for registration as they will be given ample time to complete the process once classes resume on Wednesday, April 17. He stressed that it is essential to respect students’ vacation time, especially considering that some may be living far away from school and are currently enjoying their break at home.
Addressing the press in Accra on Tuesday, April 2, Dr. Nkansah assured that the GES is working closely with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to ensure that students have sufficient time to register for the WASSCE.
Regarding speculation about an increase in the WASSCE registration fee, which is currently set at GH₵465, Dr. Nkansah clarified that students under the Free SHS program are exempt from paying this fee, as it is covered by the program. He reiterated that all students in government secondary schools under the Free SHS program are not required to make any payments for registration.
Dr. Nkansah also commended the decision of the teacher unions – the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) – to call off their strike, describing it as a positive step. He expressed gratitude for their cooperation, stating that the GES will continue to prioritize the interests of both staff and students.
In conclusion, Dr. Nkansah reaffirmed the commitment of the GES to work in the best interest of all stakeholders in the education sector.
