GES’ Teachers Promotion Exam Postponed Until February 2023

The GES has officially postponed the December 2022 Teachers Promotion Exam. The Exam will now be held on February 2023 according to the noticed served by the management of the Ghana Education Service.

GES indicated that the postponing of the promotion aptitude test was as a result of some unsolved issues concerning some of the tests conducted in particular centres in 2021.

Due to the above problem, management needs ample time to look into the matter till the root cause and other associated factors to prevent its reoccurring in the future.

All teachers are urged to keep revising their notes including other relevant materials for the test while having in mind that February 2023 is the month for the 2022 GES promotion aptitude test.

The exact date for the exercise will be communicated soon but it will be from 1st February to 28th February, 2023.

GES Promotion was first a face to face interview but it was switched to aptitude tests. This method of promotion has been necessitated by the large number of petitions the GES received every year from teachers which entailed performance appraisals and interviews used for promotions but allegedly fraught with victimisation and corruption.

Meanwhile, every year, the GES receives almost a thousand petitions on promotions, all levelled against GES staff in the district, regional and national headquarters, as well as interview panels across the country.

Prof. Opoku-Amankwa explained that the petitions included allegations of victimisation and corruption, explaining that apart from the complaints, the process was tedious and expensive.

Based on these and many other reasons, the GES management, in June last year, initiated the move to reform the promotion process within the confines of the guidelines.

The details and input into the new process have been agreed on with teacher unions and accepted by the GES Council.
