Government Loosing Popularity Among Financially Uncleared 2019 Batch Of Over 2000 Nursing Trainees
Over 2000 nursing trainees who passed their licensure and national service are planning a demonstration for not being given financial clearance by the government, something they consider as discrimination and a waste of national human resource.
This group of students do not understand why colleagues they sat in the same class with will be posted before them even though they have all passed their licensure examination and completed their national service just like their classmates.
Monitoring the activities of this group on their social media handles, it is very clear that government would be in the bad books of this group of nursing trainees if they are not given financial clearance along with their colleagues.
The government needs to take proactive steps, be more efficient, effective, and strategic in the use of national resources to train health workers. The current situation if not handled well may make the brain drain of nurses into the US and UK more attractive.
Nigeria is suffering from brain drain in the health sector as demotivated and underpaid doctors are taking up jobs in the US health sector. Ghana risks losing its manpower in the health sector if care is not taken.
