NABCO has done more harm than good to beneficiaries
Do you hold the view that NABCO has done more harm than good to beneficiaries?
The smiles are gone, the praises showered on government by NABCO beneficiaries have been replaced with curses and regret, the money for paying NABOC trainees is finished, the permanent jobs promised have been deflated, the reality has set in, you are fired, go home if you are a NABCO trainee…If you are one of the NABCO trainees, you will be hurt and feel used and dumped.
A letter emanating from the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious dated 21st January 2022, reminded beneficiaries of the National Builders Corps who were still at a post that, the programme ended at the end of October 2021. The Minister directed those at post to be relieved of their current duties so that the beneficiaries can exit from the service.
Prior to the 2020 general elections, the government promised the NABCO trainees permanent jobs in various sectors. This promise per the decision of the government which has called on the trainees to exit the programme means that the promise given by the government regarding securing permanent public sector jobs for them was a political talk.
A beneficiary of NABCO who is exiting the service without securing a permanent job but worked as a teacher under Educate Ghana took to social media to say that NABCO has done more harm than good to beneficiaries.
He writes…
Today I stepped out to find something to do since Nabco has collapsed.
And if you complain some people will tell you you are lazy.
So I landed on selling yoghurt
So I went to the Kasoa traffic and I disguised myself with a tight nose mask and a huge hat
As soon as I entered the traffic
I saw two of my students who just completed JHS also selling yoghurt
With my tight nose mask and huge hat, those kids were able to recognize me and started shouting… Sir Sammy sir Sammy sir Sammy.
Common come and see speed
Me na mek)) no…
In fact, I have to come back home with the yoghurt.
Because I can’t imagine chasing cars with my students for customers to purchase our yoghurt
By now de3 I believe they have spread it to the entire school because the number of calls that are coming, my phone noerrr 3s3 wani…
Aaaba Nabco you have done more harm than good
The question is why would the NABCO beneficiaries conclude that NABCO has done more harm than good to beneficiaries when they have been engaged over many years and paid stipends which although did not come on a regular basis helped them to keep body and soul together.
The promise by the government to secure permanent jobs for many of them and the current turnaround is one of the reasons for the conclusion. They feel deceived, used and ditched by the government they voted for in December 2020.
Most NABCO beneficiaries are university graduates and the decision by the government to ask these graduates to exit the programme means they would end up being unemployed until they secure jobs in the private sector. Do not forget that, the Minister of Finance has disclosed that the public sector is full.
These NABCO trainees are now going to battle to secure jobs especially if they do not have the requisite skills to meet the demands of the private employers who continue to employ, but pay very low wages and salaries.
Others will be quick to say that, Nabco has been a blessing in disguise. What is your stand?
