How COLA would be paid (Drafted Modalities ready) – Latest FWSC Update
Until now, public sector workers have not been briefed on how the 15% COLA would be paid by the government after it was approved on 14th July 2022. Information from the
Fair Wages and Salaries Commission says the modalities for paying the COLA have now been drafted. The completed modalities will serve as a guide for the payment of the COLA
It has successfully completed drafting modalities for the payment of the Conditions of Living Allowance (COLA) to all public sector workers.
How COLA would be paid (Drafted Modalities ready)
While speaking on the modalities on JoyNews, Mr. Benjamin Arthur, The Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission was not able to tell exactly when the said drafted modalities will be made public, but he was quick to say that payment will commence soon.
Public Sector Workers have been expected since the approval of the 15% COLA on the 14th of July. “We are certain that government will implement it. So nobody should have doubts. As soon as possible. Realizing the money in your pocket, we are working on the schedule, and I am sure, maybe in about two weeks to three weeks’ time, the government will come out public with the exact date.” Mr. Benjamin Arthur disclosed.

“That has been done “modalities” and it will have to be communicated to Organized Labour” but until then, workers will have to wait for a little more and be expectant of the announcement. Earlier information in the public domain revealed that since salaries for July had been processed before the agreement was reached, the government was going to pay the 15 percent COLA from August with the July COLA as arrears.
The Cost of Living Allowance industrial strike which was initiated by four pre-tertiary education unions saw, other public sector organized labour unions joining. While the strike disrupted teaching and learning in basic and secondary schools, the government was adamant to respond to the call for COLA until the agreement was reached on 14th July 2022.
