I write to share How I Made 7-Ones in 2020 BECE When No One Believed in Me and I hope that, my friends getting ready for the 2022 BECE will also follow my basic tips and score good grades as well.
I remember while in JHS, my teachers and friends were convinced that, I was among the candidates who will not make any good grades. No one even believed that I will make it to the SHS.
Negative statements by some teachers, especially my Mathematics, Social Studies, and Integrated Science teachers, never stopped coming. As if this was not enough, my friend teased me jokingly, but I got hurt emotionally each time they did.
During one of the usual mathematics classes, in Form Three, my teacher posed a question to the class and surprisingly no one was able to solve the question. I raised my hand to provide the answers, and the entire class burst into laughter.
Then the teacher asked me to come forward to solve the question. What they did not know was that the previous night during my study, I chanced on a similar question and googled how to solve it, and so I knew the process.
I went to the board and explained while I solved the question on the whiteboard. Wooow wooow wooow my teacher stated… He was shocked I solved the question. The entire class was silent-dead like a cemetery. That day, my confidence increased, I realized most of the questions in mathematics, Science, and the rest could be found on the internet with a good search. It became my habit instead of wasting time on social media.
In addition, I started taking my lessons seriously and worked on my vocabulary in each subject and topic. This helped me to answer questions more effectively. I took notice of how authors like Aki-Ola answered past BECE questions and mastered the same process and skill for all the subjects.
I practiced with past papers and mock papers and went further to solve objective test questions often. Soon, the entire class started respecting my personality and my ability won me new friends, but I was very selective and made friends with only those who were serious and could be of help to me.

At home, I got a lot of encouragement from my parents, who also ensured that I got all the needed revision materials for my preparation.
How I Made 7-Ones in 2020 BECE When No One Believed in Me: The 7 things I did right
During the main BECE examination, I did 7 things right which helped me to obtain the right good grades.
- During the examination, I made sure, I read the examination instruction carefully as well as the questions.
- I jotted the points I had to explain for each question I wanted to answer.
- I provided examples for points I explained or listed.
- Furthermore, I never wrote one or two-worded answers. Likewise, I made sure I used sentences to answer the questions, including my English language comprehension answers.
- I read through my answers to ensure, they made meaning and provided exactly the information the examiner needed.
- Not only that, but I corrected my grammatical errors and spelling as well.
- During the mathematics paper, I remembered what the Maths teacher always said. “Show workings if you want to pass Mathematics” I did just that throughout section B.
