How to obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) abroad (Importance)
A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is a unique identification number issued to taxpayers and potential taxpayers by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). It is important for a number of reasons, including:
- To track tax payments and compliance. The TIN helps the GRA to track the tax payments of individuals and businesses and to ensure that everyone is paying their fair share.
- To prevent tax evasion. The TIN makes it more difficult for people to evade taxes, as it provides the GRA with a way to identify them.
- To facilitate government transactions. The TIN is required for a number of government transactions, such as applying for a passport, opening a bank account, or registering a business.
- To improve efficiency. The TIN helps to streamline government processes and make them more efficient.
In Ghana, the TIN is now replaced by the Ghana Card PIN for individuals. The Ghana Card PIN is a 10-digit number that is unique to each individual and is issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA). The Ghana Card PIN is also used for a number of other purposes, such as accessing government services, opening a bank account, and voting.
