JUST IN: Economic Crisis; Trouble Befalls Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison
Bernard Oduro Takyi, a Chartered Economist, has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fire Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, for his part in the country’s current problems.
He says that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is not the only one to blame for the country’s current economic crisis, so his head shouldn’t be the only one to roll.
He said that the 1992 Ghanaian Constitution makes it clear that the Governor of the Bank of Ghana is in charge of stabilizing the country’s currency, which Dr. Ernest Addison, in the opinion of Oduro Takyi, has completely failed to do.
“Article 183 of Ghana’s Constitution from 1992 says that the Bank of Ghana is responsible for promoting and maintaining the stability of Ghana’s currency and for directing and regulating the currency system in order to help Ghana’s economy grow.”
“So, if our currency isn’t stable, who has to go? First must be the Governor of the Banks of Ghana. The Constitution makes it very clear that it is the Governor of the Bank of Ghana’s job to keep the currency stable.
“So, since the Ghana Cedi is galloping and wobbling all the time, the governor should be fired,” he said in Twi during an XYZ TV interview that GhanaWeb watched.
The Ghana cedi is the worst currency in the world, according to Bloomberg. It has lost almost 50% of its value so far in 2022, making it the worst currency in the world.
