Kasoa: Boy, 6, drowns in water storage tank

A 6-year-old boy who drowned in an uncovered water tank in Kasoa has lost his life, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The GNFS earlier this evening, at 1703 hours, responded to a tragic drowning incident involving a six-year-old boy, Godfred Aboagye, who drowned in an uncovered water storage tank at Kasoa Wallantu in the Central Region.

According to the GNFS, the lifeless body of Godfred Aboagy was recovered and handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.

While extending its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the GNFS has stated that drowning is still preventable. It has therefore called on all parents and guardians to protect their children from such tragic deaths.

According to the GNFS, preliminary findings indicate that the child drowned while attempting to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the open tank. The service added that “Drowning is still preventable. Parents and Guardians are urged to protect their children from such tragic deaths.”

This is an urgent call to all Ghanaians.

To safeguard the safety of all, the GNFS has urged parents, guardians, and property owners to secure all water storage facilities and report emergencies.

The GNFS can be reached on 112 / 0201500360 / 0302772446 for a swift response on all emergency response needs across the country.
