REGISTER YOUR WARD NOWThelma’s Uncle Asher had lived abroad for the best part of a year. He left the village in search of greener pastures, promising to return with enough money to start a new business. “I will be as good as my word,” he said before leaving. Many people did not believe him, but Thelma trusted her uncle. When he finally returned, he came with savings that could help the family substantially. He spoke about using the money to set up a farm to give jobs to young people in the village. The chief commended him for his good stewardship and encouraged the youth to support the plan. Soon, all hands were on deck to prepare the land. Young men cleared the weeds while women helped to plant seedlings. As the farm began to flourish, some villagers grew curious. One thing puzzled her — why Uncle Asher never pampered himself with his money.
Instead, he spent everything to make the community better. But not everyone was happy. One night, thieves tried to burgle the storehouse where the farm tools were kept. Fortunately, the watchman acted promptly and raised the alarm. The thieves fled, and the people thanked him for his bravery. As news of the farm’s success spread, tongues began to wag.
