While the three teacher unions work in harmonious unity to achieve better and new conditions of service for members of the respective unions, educators must be updated on key issues and matters arising.
The teacher unions, in a letter dated January 25, 2024, informed the government of the expiration of the 2023 conditions of service.
The conditions of service for Pre-Tentertiary Teacher Unions expired in August 2023; thus, the three unions have had to wait for five months to make proactive moves to get them renewed. This means the new agreement will be delayed for at least 60 months since the union leaders have hinted that the current negotiations will not be completed until the end of February 2024.
In a letter dated January 25, 2024, the unions representing teachers in the pre-tertiary education sector alerted the government that new discussions were necessary. The same communiqué was also used to inform all teachers about the current status of the negotiations over their working conditions.
