Following the end of the 2024 BECE in July, the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a press release signed by the Director General, Dr. Eric Nkansah, stated that the school reopening date for SHS1 students was September 27th, 2024.
This was welcomed news since the GES was proactive with the declaration of the starting date for Term 1 for the new SHS1 students who sat their BECE this year.
However, following delays in the start of marking of BECE scripts as a result of governments failure to release funds proactively to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the marking dates were cancelled and new dates were set.
The dates made public and sighted by Ghana Education News showed that:
2024 BECE Marking Zonla Cordinating Activities was scheduled for September 17th-18th.
While actual marking is expected to start on September 21 and end on October 11, 2024.
Clearly, the actual marking date goes before the GES’s 27th September reopening date.
It is technically impossible for SHS1 students to report to school on that date.
What is the school reopening date for 2024/2025 SHS1 students?
At the time of filing this report, the GES has not come out with any official new date for SHS1 students. However, the reopening date is projected to be in November 2024. This means students will spend less time in school for term 1 of the new SHS program. Schools will however vacate by 20th December 2024 for the Christmas Holidays.
The GES is expected to make official declarations stating the new school reopening date for SHS1 students. Students, parents, and the general public should keep an eye on the official Facebook page of the GES and on this news portal for credible updates from the GES.
Result and School Placement Checkers Update
In a related development, students who sit the BECE are to note that, when results are released, they will need a result checker card to check their results.
The card to be used to check school placement is also different and is known as the School Placement Checker Card.
Both cards will be available for sale on the Ghana Education News Portal once they are available for sale.
The result checking will be done on a WAEC dedicated site, while the school placement will be checked on a CSSPS site owned and managed by the Ministry of Education through the Free SHS secretariat.
