Allowance paid related to 2023
Nursing trainee allowance arrears have been paid after a long wait. The allowance arrears paid cover October to December 2023, but there are still 4 months outstanding for 2024 (January to April)
The video of nursing students jubilating and praising the government after receiving their ‘allawa’ has gone viral after the payment notifications were sent to their phones.
After waiting in agony for the nursing training allowance for several months, the trainees have welcomed the payment of their pending allowances with various dance moves and signing.
On a rainy Wednesday in 2024, the jubilant nursing trainees’ joy at receiving their allowances went viral on the internet.
The payment of the allowance arrears and the reunion that followed emphasize the great importance of the allowance to the students.
The nationwide ecstatic dance from the various campuses is a testament to the true definition of the joy money can bring to the lives of hard-pressed students.
On May 2, 2024, Accra-based Neat FM posted one of these videos on its official Facebook page. A new video about allowance payments shows several trainees in their green and white uniforms dancing and rejoicing after receiving their payments.
In the background, the echoes of praise for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia could be heard as they shared the message that popped up on their phones that their allowances had been paid.
As they displayed messages on their phones to the camera as proof of the allowance payment, known as “allawa,” some of the trainees praised Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Allawa, allawa, allawa. Four more for Bawumia, four more for Bawumia,” as she showed a notification on her phone.
Students have independently confirmed that the government has settled some of the allowances in arrears. According to the information available to Ghana Education News, the allowances paid for October, November, and December 2023 are for second and third-year students.

Therefore, the students still owe allowances from January to April 2024.
Prior to the allowance payment, Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President and flagbearer of the ruling NPP, made a promise during his campaign event in the Bono Region that he would assist in processing their allowances upon his return to Accra. The trainees in the Bono region, who complained about the non-payment of their allowances and its negative impact on their academic performance and inability to pay their fees, prompted this promise.

“I wasn’t sure where you were with your ‘allowance’, but I think I will check with the Ministry of Finance immediately after I return.” If your ‘allawa’ remains unpaid, Bawumia promised to ensure its payment.
The nursing trainees allowance (Allawa) paid has relieved the students.
