Obuasi SecTech Student Invents Smart Walking Stick for the Blind [Video Evokes Joy]
A final-year student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School has invented a smart walking stick to assist visually impaired (blind) persons with movement. With the smart walking stick, users can move from one location to the other without needing someone to assist them.
The smart walking stick has a sensor attached to it that provides peeping sounds if the user comes close to a moving or stationed vehicle. The stick is also able to detect the presence of stagnant water.
The final-year student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, together with a colleague, developed the smart walking stick designed to assist visually impaired persons with navigation. The innovative device is equipped with special sensors capable of detecting obstacles and water when brought close to them, enabling users to identify potential hazards and move around more safely and independently.
For each of these obstacles, the smart walking stick gives a different peeping sound, which enables the user to sense danger and to know the exact item present. This will help users avoid crashing into gutters, vehicles, and others.
The first prototype of the smart walking stick was tested by the students on a busy street. They used the opportunity to explain how the stick works. This smart walking stick for the visually impaired comes as an advanced version of the famous white stick. The stick is expected to operate with the help of a battery and the other components used to design it.
The success of the young man whose name is currently not available confirms the importance of technical and vocational education in helping develop the nation and transform society.

He humbly called for support from Ghanaians to help improve the visually impaired smart white stick for mass production. Speaking in the video sighted on X by Ghanaeducation.org, the Obuasi SecTech investor revealed that he was currently working on another stick for the deaf, which will vibrate in different ways to alert them of danger.
If the sticks are improved and their production is supported, they can become useful to our learners in schools such as the school for the blind, among others. This Obuasi SecTech Smart Walking Stick invention must not go unnoticed by the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education.

According to @theboyrayy, the invention is a nice one, but he holds the view that the begging on the streets in Ghana is getting out of hand. “Nice invention, but the begging is going to be too much.” He stated.
