SHS/SHT students headcount and verification exercise starts

The head count and verification of students enrolled in Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTs) has started nationwide, per information available to the Ghana Education News portal.
The exercise was announced by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in a letter dated 24th January, 2024, sighted by this portal. The exercise is part of efforts to ensure accurate data is collected for the annual school placement of students and to obtain accurate records of student enrolment in public secondary schools.
Why the SHS/SHT students headcount and verification exercise?
Per the letter signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, the headcount seeks to achieve two primary objectives:
1. Reconciliation of Enrolment Data: The exercise will match the number of students recorded in the Student Information System (SIS) with the actual number of students physically present in schools. This measure ensures that the records maintained in the system accurately reflect on-the-ground realities.
2. Validation for Payment Processes: A final validated list of students will be compiled to streamline all subsequent payment-related activities for schools.
All Regional Directors of Education are to ensure heads of senior high and technical schools are updated and that the exercise is carried out. The exercise will also ensure accountability and help achieve efficiency in the allocation and use of resources at the SHS level.
The task is a routine procedure that aims at improving the quality and reliability of data within the education sector for decision-making.
