UCC L300 Student donates streetlights to enhance security on campus
In a remarkable demonstration of civic responsibility and student leadership, Mr. Benjamin Essien-Davis, a Level 300 student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has taken a significant step towards enhancing the safety and security of his fellow students by donating ten ultra-modern streetlights to the Students Representative Council (SRC).
This generous donation aims to illuminate the campus, particularly during the critical period of end-of-semester examinations, ensuring a safer environment for both studying and commuting.
The initiative, aptly named “Operation Light Up Campus and Diaspora,” seeks to address the pressing security concerns and improve the nightlife on campus, making it conducive for academic activities.
Mr. Essien-Davis’s contribution is not only a fulfillment of a promise he made at the SRC General Assembly but also a testament to his commitment to creating a better and safer campus community.
The lack of adequate street lighting has been a significant concern at UCC, with many students feeling unsafe navigating the campus after dark.
This issue is particularly acute during examination periods when students frequently utilize academic facilities late into the night.
By addressing this concern, Mr. Essien-Davis is directly contributing to the wellbeing and safety of his peers, ensuring that their focus remains on their studies rather than their security as they commute across campus.

He praised the university’s efforts, including the deployment of University Security personnel and the University Police Command, which have collectively contributed to a peaceful atmosphere conducive to academic excellence.
The SRC President, Mr. Vincent Kojo Siabi, expressed profound gratitude for the donation, acknowledging it as a significant boost to the SRC’s efforts to enhance campus security.
He assured that the streetlights would be installed promptly to serve their intended purpose.
Furthermore, Mr. Siabi called on other philanthropic individuals and organizations to follow in Mr. Essien-Davis’s footsteps and support the SRC’s ongoing initiatives to improve campus life.
Mr. Essien-Davis’s gesture serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can make in transforming their community.
It sets a benchmark for student-led initiatives aimed at enhancing campus safety and demonstrates how proactive, collective efforts can significantly contribute to creating a safer, more conducive learning environment for all.
